“Poughkeepsie Betty” met “Altoona Ray”
at Winkie’s at 15th and Stahl.
They laughed and they drank and they danced
and they laughed ‘til 15 bells far past last call.
“Let’s go to a hotel, let’s get us a room,”
said Betty, a gleam in her eye.
Ray flashed her a smile and gave her a wink
and hastened to 16th and Rye.
They got them a room, they did what’s to do,
They woke to the morning’s low hum,
And Poughkeepsie Betty and Altoona Ray
went back home from whence they had come.
They ne’er met, again, twas just that one time.
But neither would ever regret,
the kissing, the giggles, the unbridled sex,
at 70, who would’ve guessed?
