resig Nation

I am floating
she said
with a sad
smile.
Her children
were gone
and she was
on her own
for the first
time in such a long, long
time.
I’m no longer
grounded,
she said,
with a lonely
smile. Her children
were gone
and she was
by herself
for the first
time in such
a long,
long, long
time.
I need to find
my purpose,
again, she said
with a look
that said she
wasn’t so sure
she’d come up
with one. Then,
she thought
for a moment,
then for
a moment, again,
and asked: What if
this is it?
What if
there’s nothing anymore like that?
And a voice
inside her head
said:
There isn’t.
But
that’s all right.
It will
be all right.
She didn’t believe
the voice, but
she had
no choice.
